How to read these figures
This page brings together two recent national research programs. Pew Research Center’s Religious Landscape Study surveyed 36,908 U.S. adults from July 17, 2023, through March 4, 2024. American Bible Society’s State of the Bible 2025 findings draw on 2,656 online interviews with U.S. adults conducted January 2–21, 2025.
The figures answer different questions and use each organization’s own definitions. In particular, American Bible Society defines a Bible User as someone who reads the Bible outside of church at least three times a year.
